I opted for 50:1 mix using synthetic 2-cycle oil, and some old transmission oil I had for the chain-lube. After priming it 5-7 times per instructions and applying the choke, I cranked it three times, before it almost started. Pushed the choke back in and another crank, and Voila! I let the saw idle for a minute or two, then started cutting away. It generates more than adequate power to dice 12-15" limbs with minimal effort. The spring-loaded engine mounts absorb shock and vibrations, so your hands don't get all tingly and numb if you use it for a long time. I was also impressed with the lack of fumes from this saw, but can not quite tell if it's because it is CARB approved or because I used a really good synthetic oil for my mixture. I'll continue to use 50:1 ratio to be on the safe side, even though someone said I can go to 100:1... With a $30 cash back and 7 year guarantee makes this a good buy. Can register it online but for the $30 need to send in written registration card.  heavy duty homeowner saw, This review is from: Hitachi CS40EA18 18-Inch 40cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Rear Handle Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) I purchased this saw for 234.99 and it seams to be worth every penny and then some. It was a replacement for a smaller saw(32cc 16") and seams to handle much more akin to the pro grade vs the homeowner grade, but only on the higher side of the homeowner grade price point. I have only used it a couple of times so far, but the first time was to clear three large hardwood trees and a few smaller trees that had come down in the October snowstorm this year. It never struggled once, it isn't too heavy, and the anti fatigue vibration dampening system worked very well (no numb & tingly feeling on your hands & arms after extended use). Starts easy warm or cold. I used the Tanika synthetic oil and I don't know if it was the saw or the oil or a combo of both but there was virtually no noticeable exhaust smell. How can you go wrong with a 7 yr warranty? |
