Handy product with a deceptive warranty. Advertised with photo of tool and its rechargeable battery attached, and a one year warranty. Sadly, the battery connector is flimsy and when it soon breaks, the company service department says only the main tool is warranteed, not the new rechargeable battery. Before the battery comes apart, the product works well.

There really isnt anything wrong with this saw it does the job. I have used mine for about 2 years and it has seen various differnt cuts. The largest being an old pine tree at the thickest diamater of 16\". it is also good at trimming shrubs, and i think is best at trimming 3-6 inch diamater branches. The saw hasnt kicked back on me once, but that could be because its a pretty light duty saw.

The negatives of this saw is like what the reviewer above has written, the oil lubricating container leaks, but it really isnt that big of a deal.

This saw is great for the suburban homeowner, or for general handyman, for cleanup of small trees, bushes, or cutting 4*4\'s.

however, i feel that this saw is overpriced on Amazon as i purchase mine for about $40 bucks at my local menards.

After 8 years my Remington Limb & Trim saw bit the dust today. This was my second Limb & Trim saw. The first one probably lasted over a dozen years. Overall they are good saws for the suburban homeowner for the money. They are very lightweight and this makes them fine for triming and cutting small trees. I have cut down trees and limbs up to 12\" with these with no problem. Larger trees just take longer as you have to cut from both sides. Gas chain saws are faster, but this will do the job if you are patient.
The saw is virtually maintenance free except for keeping the blade sharp, lubricated, and under the correct tension. For sharpening, you can use a chain saw file, or a Dremel tool with the correct chain saw grinder, which is much faster and easier.
The chain oiler mechanism did leak on both saws so I never use it. I know other owners that have had the same problem. Instead, I keep an oil can handy and manually squirt oil on the blade after every few cuts to keep it lubricated.
The other problem is the chain bar has to be adjusted to the correct tension so the chain is not either too tight or too loose. This can be a bit of a hassle, but is necessary on any chain saw. If too tight and used too long, you will burn out the brushes on the motor. If too loose, the chain will cut poorly and could even come out of the track, causing a nasty jam or even be dangerous.
Overall this is a fine saw for the suburban homeowner that just wants to clean up their landscaping. If you live on an acreage or farm, or need wood for burning for heating you will want a bigger electric or gas chainsaw. But for everyone else this will do fine.
I just went out today and bought a clearence display model 14\" Remington ES1514AS Limb & Trim for $25 at Lowes to replace the one that just died. At this price if I only get a couple of years out of it, it is worth it. But based on past experience I expect I will get more than 5 years out of it.

 \"WORKS WELL on MY PALM TREES\" 2009-12-13

I bought this at Home Depot 2 years ago for about $130, the price Amazon has it listed for now seems high. Had I read the other reviews first I probably never would have bought it. I can understand there problem that it does not cut through most harder wood well, the blade does turn fairly slow. But I only use it on the 7 Palm Trees that I have. Palm branches are fairly soft and fibrous, and I have no problem cutting through them quickly. The old branches start turning brown and hanging after a while and need to be cut off about every 4 to 6 months or so.

This Pole Saw has worked fairly well for me, and I haven\'t had any problems with the battery running low in a short period of time. As a matter of fact I was out trimming branches yesterday for about an hour. I cut down about 30 branches and the battery still had some charge left. That probobly is because the branches were soft palm wood. Yes it starts getting heavy after you are holding the pole up a while \" I had to take a couple of breaks yesterday \" I\'m 71 and in somewhat decent shape and found it not to be that difficult though. My main gripe with this saw is the blade is to short. It\'s difficult reaching between branches with this short blade. Instead of a 8 inch blade, it would work a lot better for me if it was at least 12 inches long.

The local tree trimmers charge about $20 a tree, if I trim my own 7 trees 1 time this trimmer is paid for. If this one stopped working I would probably buy another one, unless I could find a better one for less money. Such as the comparable Black & Decker Pole Chain Saw.

I purchased this saw in Sept 08. The battery will last about 10-15 min then it dies. After I used the saw about 3 times the battery failed to hold a charge. After repeated attempts to contact Desa Power Tools service center to get the battery replaced under warranty, I just give up. The sevice center phone bank is inoperable since mid Dec 08. If you need a pole saw just buy a gas model. This product is not ready for the market.

Poor design...tool needs to be withdrawn from the market and rethought. After a full battery charge, it only will cut about 5 small size branches, at most I got maybe 10, 1 to 3 inch branches before the battery needed to be recharge. Not recommended!

With many trees in our yard I wanted to be able to trim away fallen and
dead branches with more ease. I purchased teh Remington Cordless Electric 18-volt chainsaw/polesaw. Model number BPS188A. I took it out of the package and set it up. The saw portion is heavy and cumbersome compared to a gas powered model. Since I am in very good shape and handle large machinery regularly I was surprised at how fatigued I would get using this saw. The chain moves slow so it takes what seems forever to cut even small branches. In the mean time the overweight saw has to be held up over head. The operator has to oil the chain by hand using a little squeeze bottle provided with the saw. The battery lasts for about 10 minutes so I purchased a spare. Knowing that, I had about 20 minutes to trim branches and then a whole day and a half to recharge both batteries. About 20 minutes is enough to use the polesaw though since the saw portion is too awkward and cumbersome anyhow. Since the blade moves so slowly it takes too much effort to get the blade to seat itself into a cut and get started. After using this saw about three times, about an hour tota,l a gear sheared off inside the housing.I tried to return the unit after owning it for less than six weeks, or even to exchange it. The Remington policy is to have the customer call the company. I called the company. They had no service center that would repair the saw in my area. They didn\'t know what was wrong with it, but suggested that I could get a \"gear\" that they would send to me. Then I would have to figure out how to open the housing and repair the saw myself. If that was indeed the reason why it was broken. If I did the repair myself I would void the warranty. If I don\'t attempt to do the repair myself the saw is junk. I could do as they suggested and drive it to a certified repair facility three hours away. Or I could find an unauthorized dealer who could repair it and then send the bill to Remington for reimbursment. Except having an unauthorized dealer do the work would void the warranty and Remington wouldn\'t reimburse me for the repairs. So you see the quandry here? If you need to use a polesaw, rent a good gas unit. It will go 30 times faster. It will be cheaper. Avoid this unit, it is junky and the warranty is pretty much worthless.
